Highlights of Meeting
October 25, 2008 Executive Committee
Western New England School of Law
Thirteen Executive Committee members and area representatives attended this meeting at Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts. See the agenda.
After approval of minutes of July 11, 2008, meeting, Roberto Koch presented the Treasurer's Report. Our revenue has remained about the same, but our expenses were reduced because the NNLSO Journal was distributed electronically rather than printed and mailed. It was decided that electronic publishing of the Journal is not only economical but also ecology-friendly, and we will continue this procedure. Roberto has reallocated our funds, one-fourth into checking, one-fourth into savings and one-half into a short-term certificate of deposit.
Roberto presented an extensive report on our finances and a proposed 2009 line item budget. He will secure an auditor/accountant to assist us with tax compliance, etc. We will allocate $2,500 per year for regional meetings expenses-this will allow each of our regions to receive $500 toward costs of a meeting every other year.
It was decided that dues collected now from lapsed members would be credited toward 2008 and new dues would be necessary for 2009. The dues for each school were raised to $100 per year.
Plans for the NNLSO sessions in Chicago are on track-a final schedule will be available to members on the web soon.
Nicole Waterman will be in charge of our Salary Survey, results of which will be published in the spring edition of the Journal. The deadline for submitting articles for inclusion in the spring issue of the Journal will be December 15, 2008.
Denise Boessen, liaison for area reresentatives, reported that we have settled on 10 regional divisions (to mirror the regions recognized by the ABA), and all but 3 representatives are in place. The area representatives will help with recruiting new members, dues collection and spreading the word about NNLSO.
Jerri Cunningham will chair the nominations and elections committee for the 2009 election. Positions to be filled are executive director, Journal editor and four board positions.
There was a discussion about the difficulties experienced by some members who want to access the archived discussions from the listserv and Oral Hope will investigate other possible means of storing and retrieving this information.
